Mtubatuba History
The iNkosi was seen many times driving around with his wagon driven by donkeys until he finally purchased a Pontiac. He was a wealthy man and had many cows that he inherited from his father who died in 1907. The chief, however, did not believe in banks, he kept all his money in tins, boxes and bags and would often have days when he would call his closest followers to assist him in counting his money.

Discover Our Beaches
On the eastern area of the Mtubatuba area, are the golden sand beaches that stretch for miles and miles. The rich history of the coastline makes it a gem for both international and domestic tourists to discover. The coastal area falls under the protection of iSimangaliso Wetland Park, which is South Africa's first UNESCO world Heritage Site. The most well known area of the coastline is St Lucia, previously known as Rio dos Medos do Ouro,(River of golden dunes), 1554. On the 13 December 1575, the day of the feast of Saint Lucy, Manuel Peresterello renamed the mouth area Santa Lucia, today known as St Lucia.
